REGION

Northeast Nebraska Behavioral Health Network serves 24 counties in northeast and north-central Nebraska. The region totals 22,152 square miles, a land area twice the size of Maryland or nearly the size of West Virginia. The aggregate population totals 243,455 (2015 estimate), or 10.9 people per square mile. The region’s population is not well distributed, with over 51% of the total regional population in the four most populous counties (Dakota, Dodge, Madison, and Platte Counties), and seven of the counties (Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Holt, Keya Paha, Rock, and Wheeler) classified as “frontier” counties, less than 7 people per square mile.
